Wabi is the latest attempt to make a personal AI assistant feel less like a blank chat box and more like a set of practical, ongoing spaces. TechCrunch reports that Eugenia Kuyda, who founded Replika and later started Wabi, has now opened the new product to all users. The launch revisits a concierge-assistant concept she pitched years before today’s large language models became capable enough to support more flexible conversation.
How Wabi is organized
Instead of a single endless conversation, Wabi uses multiple threads for different tasks and goals. Inside a thread, users can create small custom applications with prompts—for example, a tracker inside a health conversation or a local-events view for a family discussion. The feature is meant to keep useful context close to the activity rather than requiring users to rebuild it in each exchange.
Wabi also emphasizes shared conversations. According to the report, users may choose to share information such as email or calendar details with other people in a chat, and the product can show when someone requests personal information. Kuyda says access is scoped to particular chats. That design is significant because a shared assistant can be convenient, but it also needs clear boundaries about who can see what and when.
What is known—and what is still early
TechCrunch reports Wabi is free at launch, runs in the cloud, and stores most user data in the United States, according to Kuyda. The founder also said the company is SOC 2 compliant. Those statements describe the company’s current position; they are not a substitute for a user reviewing the product’s own privacy controls and terms. Wabi had not settled on a business model, and Kuyda said the company was in talks to raise more money.
The move from a social app concept toward a personal assistant is an evolution rather than proof that people will delegate sensitive tasks to it. Email, calendars, family schedules, and financial details can reveal intimate patterns. The value of an assistant depends on reliable permissions, visible activity, revocable access, and good answers when a model is uncertain.
Questions to ask before connecting accounts
Users should check what data an integration reads, whether it can write or send information, how long conversation history is retained, and how to remove access. Shared threads should make their audience obvious. A useful assistant should also let a user complete routine tasks without granting broad access by default. These are practical tests for Wabi and for the wider category of agentic personal software.
